Speech
Lobster

Voice-first AI tutoring that starts with a live speaking assessment and builds into a personalised learning plan that compounds over time.

The Product

What is SpeechLobster?

A voice-first AI language tutor built around speaking confidence, not text drills.

SpeechLobster is an AI language tutoring platform that puts speaking at the centre of the learning experience from day one. Rather than drilling vocabulary or grammar in isolation, the product begins with a live speaking assessment, builds a baseline of the learner's current ability, and uses that baseline to shape every session that follows.

The tutor carries a persistent memory of each learner: their goals, their weak spots, the corrections that were made, and where they left off. That memory compounds across sessions, making each lesson more relevant and targeted than the one before. Practice gets progressively harder as fluency grows, moving from support-first coaching to full target-language conversation flow.

SpeechLobster is available in multiple languages and is free to start, with no account required for the initial assessment. It is aimed at learners who want real spoken confidence rather than test scores, covering everyday life, professional settings, travel, and family conversations.

Why It Was Built

Most language apps teach reading. Speaking is harder.

The mainstream language learning market is dominated by apps built around text and multiple-choice interactions. Streaks, points, and vocabulary drills create the feeling of progress while leaving the thing most learners actually need untouched: the ability to hold a real spoken conversation.

Traditional tutoring solves the speaking problem but at a cost most learners cannot sustain. Scheduling a human tutor multiple times a week is expensive, logistically complicated, and often inconsistent. Progress depends heavily on whether the tutor remembers where the learner left off and what needs reinforcement.

SpeechLobster was built to close that gap. A voice-first AI tutor available at any time, that remembers every session, adapts its difficulty automatically, and revisits gaps at the right moment. The goal was not another gamified vocabulary app but a product that replicates the compounding benefit of consistent, personalised spoken practice at a fraction of the cost of human instruction.

Who it is built for

Learners who need speaking confidence

People who can read and write in a language but freeze when it comes time to actually speak it out loud.

Professionals in multilingual environments

Those preparing to lead meetings, present, or work daily in a second language and need fluency under pressure.

Travellers and relocators

People preparing for real-world scenarios: navigating a city, handling local services, or connecting with locals naturally.

Learners who dropped out of class-based study

Those who made progress with formal tuition but could not keep up with a fixed schedule or felt held back by group pacing.

How It Works

Assess.
Practice.
Remember.

SpeechLobster moves through three phases, each building on the last. The process is designed so that no two sessions feel like starting from scratch.

01
Step 01

Guest assessment

No account is needed to begin. The learner sets their language pair, speaks naturally with the AI tutor, and receives an immediate baseline of their current speaking level. Pronunciation, fluency, and accuracy are all captured in the first session.

  • No sign-up required to start
  • Live speaking assessment from the first session
  • Accent scoring and fluency feedback in real time
  • Baseline saved when the learner creates an account
02
Step 02

Guided live sessions

With a baseline in place, each session is shaped around the learner's goals, weak spots, and where they left off. The AI tutor uses structured support early in the learning path, gradually shifting toward full target-language flow as confidence builds.

  • Scenario-based conversations for practical speaking
  • Structured support that reduces as fluency grows
  • Real-time correction and feedback during sessions
  • Progressive difficulty matched to the learner's level
03
Step 03

Ongoing learner memory

The tutor retains a full record of every session: goals set, corrections made, words or structures that need revisiting, and the overall progression of the learner. That memory is the product's compounding advantage over both apps and inconsistent human tutors.

  • Persistent memory of goals, gaps, and corrections
  • Personalised review loops that revisit weak spots
  • Progress tracking with streaks and session history
  • Each session informed by all previous sessions
The Compounding Effect

Why memory changes everything.

The difference between SpeechLobster and a generic AI chat tool is persistent, structured learner memory. The tutor does not reset between sessions. It carries forward what was corrected, what was avoided, and what the learner said they wanted to achieve. Over time, this creates a practice experience that gets more targeted, not less, the longer you use it.

+
Goals are remembered
Learning objectives set in session one are carried into every session that follows.
+
Corrections are revisited
Mistakes are logged and reintroduced at the right moment so improvements actually stick.
+
Progress is visible
Streaks, session counts, and fluency signals give learners a clear picture of how far they have come.
Adaptive Language Policy
Early learning

Support-first mode

When a learner is still building confidence, the tutor uses their native language as a scaffold. Instructions, corrections, and prompts blend both languages so the learner is never lost.

Advanced learning

Target-first mode

As fluency develops, the tutor shifts toward conducting the entire session in the target language. The transition happens gradually and is calibrated to the learner's actual ability, not a fixed schedule.

Practice Scenarios

Speaking practice for real life.

Sessions are built around the moments where speaking confidence actually matters, not abstract grammar exercises.

Travel and navigation

Airports, hotels, restaurants, directions, and local services in the target language.

Professional meetings

Leading discussions, presenting ideas, and handling questions in a second language.

Family conversations

Connecting naturally with family members who speak a different first language.

Speaking interviews

Preparation for language proficiency tests and spoken interview components.

Everyday life

Shopping, healthcare appointments, banking, and daily interactions abroad.

Global team collaboration

Working across languages on international teams and distributed organisations.
